Stellar athletics competition set to feature 31 defending European champions

European Athletics have released the final entry list for the European Championships Munich 2022 featuring no less than 31 defending champions.

Croatia's Sandra Perkovic will be targeting a record sixth successive title in the discus when she steps out into the famous Olympiastadion, home of the 1972 Olympic Games.

To further delight athletics fans, all 10 of Europe's gold medallists from the recent World Athletics Championships in Oregon feature on the entry list for Munich.

Other leading athletes across the continent are targeting the competition to complete their summer quest for major event medals.

Great Britain's Laura Muir claimed Commonwealth Games 1,500m gold in Birmingham to add to her world bronze over the same distance and is now targeting a medal treble in Munich.

“Two down, one to go,"  she told The Independent newspaper. "I came into this year wanting to run at all three and medal at all three. I have done two out of three so far."
