Kenderesi, who won bronze at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, qualified fastest into the final ahead of his team-mate, 18-year-old Kristof Milak, the third fastest in history behind Michael Phelps and fellow Hungarian Laszlo Cseh.

"I felt pretty amazing in the water, I could control the whole race," said the confident 21-year-old after his semi-final yesterday.

Yuliya Efimova (RUS) heads the field in the women’s 100m breaststroke as Russia looks to maintain its dominance of the medal table.

Gregorio Paltrinieri (ITA) will be under threat when he defends the 1500m freestyle title he has won at the last three European Championships, while his countryman Alessandro Miressi leads the qualifiers in the 100m freestyle final.

Eighteen-year-old Kliment Kolesnikov (RUS) returns from setting a world record in the 50m backstroke to take on the 100m heats while fellow Russian and world champion Anton Chupkov opens his 200m breaststroke account after winning bronze in the 100m.

Max Litchfield (GBR) returns to competition after injury in the 200m individual medley, a year after coming fourth in both medley events at the 2017 World Championships.

Alys Thomas (GBR) tops the world rankings going into the women's 200m butterfly while Great Britain’s men look to add European gold to their world title in the 4x200m freestyle relay.
