Netherlands' Wild eyes back-to-back track cycling golds

After grabbing her fifth European Championships title with the victory in the women's scratch race on Friday, Dutch cyclist Kirsten Wild is back on the track in Saturday's points race, where she is the clear favourite once more.

After grabbing her fifth European Championships title with the victory in the women's scratch race on Friday, Dutch cyclist Kirsten Wild is back on the track in Saturday's points race, where she is the clear favourite once more.

At the Apeldoorn 2018 World Championships in March, the home favourite won three titles in the space of just a few days - the scratch, omnium and points race - and another podium finish on Saturday will take her European championships medal tally to 13.

Wild will face competition from Elinor Barker, whose confidence should be high after Great Britain's powerful performance in winning the women's team pursuit gold on Friday.

Barker's team-mate and European gold medal record holder with 11, Katie Archibald, will miss the points race to concentrate on the individual pursuit later on the day, as she aims for a fifth European title in the event. "Like anything in sport, you don't come back for the bronze," Archibald said. "You come back to win."

The men's 1km time trial is the first medal action of Saturday's schedule at Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, Emirates Arena, with the men's omnium wrapping things up.

In the omnium, recently crowned world champion Szymon Sajnok from Poland is the man to beat. Standing in his way could be Olympic champion Italian Elia Viviani fresh from winning team pursuit gold on Friday.
