Winning Nation Trophy in final preparations to take centre stage
The final day of the European Championships Munich 2022 will see the nation finishing at the top of the Medals Table presented with the impressive Winning Nation Trophy.
Commissioned for the inaugural event held in Glasgow and Berlin in 2018, the trophy has in recent days been touring the continent’s broadcasters to be shown to their viewers.
It has been seen by viewers across the biggest television markets in the Europe, including ZDF (Germany), BBC (UK), RAI (Italy) and France Televisions.
Beyond this, it has been touring sports venues, including the Olympiaberg (mountain bike, BMX, triathlon), Königsplatz (beach volleyball, sport climbing) and the Olympiastadion (athletics).
It will reach its final destination at the Central Stage in the 1972 Olympic Park following the completion of the athletics competition at the end of Day 11 of the Championships.
The nation finishing at the top of the Medals Table having performed best across the nine Championships sports during the past 11 days will be presented with the trophy, succeeding 2018 winners Russia as overall winners.
The presentation team will include Sabine Schölzel, Member of the Board of the Stadtsparkasse Munich, Marion Schöne, General Manager Olympiapark München GmbH and Florian Kraus, Head of the Department for Education and Sport, City of Munich.
Crafted from aluminium, finished with 22ct gold plate, a key feature of the tri-sided trophy is its three handles – perfectly-designed for teams to be able to lift and carry it together in celebration.
It stands 650mm high and more than 400mm wide across its arms, weighing in at an impressive 10.5kg. Each of the trophy’s three sides features an identical European Championships emblem and fretwork of triangular holes designed to reveal the golden interior beneath.
