German discuss champ Harting wants a ripping good send-off in Berlin

It could be an emotional evening in Berlin Olympic Stadium on Wednesday when Germany’s Robert Harting bids farewell to the sport in the stadium where he won his first world discus title in 2009. Harting famously ripped his vest in half in celebration when he took gold on home soil nine years ago. The 33-year-old, who collected further titles in 2011 and 2013 and European crowns either side of his London 2012 Olympic victory, has announced this will be his final competition. He faces serious competition from Sweden's Daniel Stahl, who topped the qualifiers on Tuesday by nearly three metres.
It could be a strong night for the home country with Christina Schwanitz (GER) favourite for the women's shot title and Arthur Abele in the hunt for medals on day two of the decathlon after World Champion Kevin Mayer (FRA) crashed out with no mark in the long jump on Tuesday morning.
No more child's play as British diver Reid takes plunge in deep end

Britain's Grace Reid returns to the Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh, where she first learned to dive as a child, chasing gold in the mixed 3m synchronised event. Reid topped this year's World Series with leading British diver Tom Daly but is diving with new partner Ross Haslam while Daley misses the event because of family commitments.
The women's 10m platform final is likely to be a battle between Russian Yulia Timoshinina, Ukraine's Sofiia Lyskun - already a gold medallist in Monday's team event - and synchronised 10m platform gold medallist Lois Toulson.
France's Olivier aims to close door on rivals as swimmers head for open water

The Open Water Swimming competition starts at Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park with the 5km individual events for men and women. World 5km Champion Marc-Antoine Olivier, from France, is favourite but will face opposition from Russia’s European Champion over the same distance, Kirill Abrosimov. In the women's race, Olympic Champion Sharon Van Rouwendaal begins her campaign - she has entered the 10km, 25km and the mixed team relay and faces Rio 2016 silver medallist Rachele Bruni (ITA).
New British champion Hall to come out swinging at Gleneagles

Newly crowned British Open Champion Georgia Hall and multi-decorated Dame Laura Davies top the bill as the European Golf Team Championships get under way at Gleneagles PGA Centenary Course. Favourites to win the women's competition, they meet Spain's Noemi Jimenez and Silvia Banon in Group A as their first step towards a place in the semi-final. Britain are looking for a clean sweep as Callum Shinkwin and Lee Slattery go out half an hour after the women against Spain’s Santiago Tarrio Ben and David Borda.
