French battle Russia for gold in women’s team final
Gymnastics from 13:00
The French women’s gymnastics team, led by Melanie De Jesus and Marine Boyer, will battle defending champions Russia for gold in the women’s gymnastics team final on Saturday.
Russia, with Angelina Melinkova as the only returning member of the golden squad from 2016, qualified in second as the French took first place in qualifications. In the final, all eight teams will start from scratch.
Adam Peaty (GBR) and Sarah Sjoestroem (SWE) both looked ominous on day one and they will command the spotlight on Saturday. Brit Peaty is an overwhelming favourite in the 100m breaststroke, while Sjostrom is leading the way by some distance in the 100m butterfly.
The 50m freestyle looks to be a tighter affair and it could come down to the touch. The men’s 100m freestyle line-up includes Commonwealth Champion Duncan Scott (GBR) and Russian Vladimir Morozov.
Olympic Champion Gregorio Paltrinieri (ITA) starts his campaign in the 1500m freestyle, Yuliya Efimova (RUS) leads the way in the 100m breaststroke, while Kristof Milak (HUN) takes a bow in the 200m butterfly, an event in which he is the third fastest in history at 18 years old. The mixed 4x200m freestyle relay will also makes its debut.
Pressure is on for Russia to hold off threat from Ukraine

Olympic champion Mariia Schurochkina will try to spearhead Russia into the team free final title in Saturday's showcase event. The Russians hope to improve on their 95.5000 score from Friday's preliminaries, although Ukraine will mount a determined challenge after scoring 93.4333.
The morning session features the preliminaries of the free duet, with Russia’s new stars Svetlana Kolesnichenko and Varvara Subbotina set to continue their nation’s success. Ukraine’s Yelyzaveta Yakhno and Anastasiya Savchuk are likely to take silver.
Archibald (GBR) bids for fifth individual pursuit gold

Katie Archibald (GBR) will aim to add to her four European golds in the individual pursuit at Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, Emirates Arena, but current World Champion Kirsten Wild (NED) and defending champion Trine Schmidt (DEN) are sure to give the popular Scot a tough time.
In the men’s 1km Time Trial, European and World Champion Jeffrey Hoogland (NED) is still the man to beat, while in the men’s omnium, Szymon Sajnok (POL) will take to the start line in the rainbow jersey following his win at the world championships in March. In the same event, Elia Viviani (ITA) will test his legs on his golden bike after a two-year break from track cycling following his Olympic gold at Rio 2016.
Dutch dominate Rowing finals

The Netherlands will be seeking to turn the slate-grey waters of Strathclyde Country Park orange as Rowing finals get under way. The Dutch feature in eight of the nine medal events.
They are guaranteed at least one podium place alongside Romania and Great Britain, with just three entries in the women’s eight, but they stand a good chance in several other classes. Italy are also in contention for several medals, with their best hopes in the women’s pair and men’s quadruple sculls.
