Official Opening: Marteria and Moop Mama launch European Championships Munich 2022 on 10 August
From 11–21 August, European Championships Munich 2022 will combine sport and culture as the Bavarian capital last experienced at the 1972 Olympic Games. One month before the start, organisers have announced the concept for the Official Opening on Wednesday, 10 August. Bands, artists, and light shows will transmit across Olympiapark and captivate the audience in three Phases. The Headline act right in the middle of it all: Rap Star Marteria. The Official Opening starts at 18:30 CEST and is free of charge for everyone.
From 11–21 August, European Championships Munich 2022 will combine sport and culture as the Bavarian capital last experienced at the 1972 Olympic Games. Featuring around 4700 athletes from 50 nations and 177 medal events, Munich 2022 incorporates the European Championships of nine exciting Olympic sports into one multi-sport event to create a must-watch, must-attend experience to crown the champions of Europe. On Monday, the local organising committee for the European Championships Munich 2022 announced the biggest multi-sport-event in Germany for 50 years in style. At the Official Opening of European Championships Munich 2022, the focus is on unexpected and special moments that combine to create an unforgettable overall experience and conquer the night. Olympiapark becomes a place of togetherness and community. A place for athletes. For artists. For visitors who can attend the spectacle free of charge. The evening of Wednesday, 10 August, far removed from typical Opening ceremonies, offers a glimpse of 11 action-packed days of events bursting with top international sport and a colourful festival.
THREE PHASES OF THE OPENING: DREAMY CALM. AWAKENING. SHINING LIFE.
When the sun is set low in the sky at 18:30 on Wednesday, 10 August, Phase one of the Official Opening of European Championships Munich 2022 begins with Dreamy Calm. Walking acts, light shows, and bands will take visitors visually and with spherical acoustics on a journey into the world of dreams for an hour.
At 19:30 the Awakening begins. Marching Bands will be clearly heard moving into Olympiapark from all directions. Small dynamic bands replace the atmospheric acts and enliven the music programme on the multiple stages. Larger-than-life Dundu puppets and stilt walkers transform the park into a fairy-tale forest. Marteria will provide a brilliant hello-wake-up effect. The rapper from Rostock hits the mark with his music and is one of the most popular and influential solo artists in Germany. Meanwhile, the ten-piece Munich brass band Moop Mama will lend the Opening a mix of urban sounds and local flair. True to the motto of providing surprising moments, all visitors can look forward to another musical highlight and a stage programme that complete the overall audio-visual production.
After the Awakening, the crowning finale is the Shining Life. Trees light up the night sky, bands parade through the grounds and illuminations make Olympiapark appear in a colourful sea of lights. The opening offers a veritable fireworks display of sensory impressions that sweep the audience away and allow them to escape from reality.
All residents of Munich, as well as all fans and sports enthusiasts from outside the city limits, are welcome to attend the Official Opening of European Championships Munich 2022.
