Grace Reid dives for more British gold in her hometown pool
Reid, who grew up in Edinburgh and also went to university in the city, is among the favourites for the mixed 3m synchronised event.
Grace Reid returns to the Royal Commonwealth Pool, where she learned to dive as a child, on Wednesday in a bid to add a third gold to Great Britain’s superb start to the Diving competition at the 2018 Glasgow European Championships.
Britain dominated day two of the competition on Tuesday, with Jack Laugher and James Heatly picking up gold and bronze respectively in the men's 1m springboard, while Eden Cheng and Lois Toulson won the women's synchronised 10m platform event.
Reid, who grew up in Edinburgh and also went to university in the city, is among the favourites for the mixed 3m synchronised event with her new partner, Ross Haslam (GBR).
The Scot, who now training at the London Aquatic Centre, was a gold medallist with World Champion Tom Daley (GBR) in the same event at the London 2016 European Championships, and the pair took silver at the last year's World Championships.
But she has teamed up with 20-year-old Haslam in 2018 while Daley takes a break from the sport because of family commitments. The new pair collected a World Cup bronze in their first competition in China in June and are expected to be serious contenders for medals in Edinburgh.
They will face fierce competition from Germany’s Tina Punzel and Lou Massenberg, third in the World Series this season. Massenberg, 17, already picked up a silver in Monday’s mixed team event. Italy’s Elena Bertocchi and Maicol Verzotto are also likely to feature, as are Russians Nadezhda Bazhina and Nikita Shleikher.
The individual women’s 10m platform is set to be a battle between Ukraine's Sofiia Lyskun and Russian Yulia Timoshinina, who have both won medals in Edinburgh on the opening two days. Great Britain’s Lois Toulson is also expected to be a contender after winning gold in the synchromised event on Tuesday.
