Govorov (UKR) and Proud (GBR) in golden showdown

Andriy Govorov (UKR) and Ben Proud (GBR) present a clash of the titans in the final of the men’s 50m butterfly on Tuesday at Tollcross International Swimming Centre.

Govorov set a world record of 22.27 seconds in June in the lane alongside world champion Proud who described seeing the Ukrainian’s shadow fade into the distance in the Foro Italico pool in Rome.

The pair were the fastest through the heats to book the centre lanes in Glasgow, with Govorov acknowledging his desire for titles as well as records. "Who is going to take the winner's medal, that’s it," he said.

“It’s all about keeping my head down and doing my own race," Proud said, looking forward to the clash. "He’s not shown anything out of this world so far, so he’s got more for tomorrow. It will be two people going head to head and swimming their own race."

Elsewhere, Danas Rapsys was fastest into the men’s 200m freestyle final as he seeks to become Lithuania’s first male European champion.

Yulia Efomova (RUS) and Simona Quadarella (ITA) are seeking their second individual titles in the 200m breaststroke and 1500m freestyle respectively.

Katinka Hosszu (HUN) is into her first individual final in Glasgow after qualifying second in the 100m backstroke.

Hosszu will start her day in the heats of the 200m individual medley, in which she is Olympic champion and world record holder, while Sarah Sjoestroem (SWE) - already with winners' medals in the 50m freestyle and 100m butterfly - continues her golden quest in the 100m freestyle.

World record holder Adam Peaty (GBR) goes in the heats of the 50m breaststroke and 18-year-old Kliment Kolesnikov (RUS) continues his bid for a clean sweep of the backstroke titles in the 200m. He has already won gold in the 50m and 100m distances in Glasgow.
