ECM confirms Observer Programme in Munich for multi-sport European Championships

European Championships Management (ECM) has confirmed details for the official Observer Programme for potential future hosts of the multi-sport European Championships that will take place in Munich on Thursday 18th and Friday 19th August 2022.

As part of the Host City appointment process for the multi-sport European Championships 2026 and beyond, ECM has developed a specific programme with the Local Organising Committee of Munich 2022 to provide delegates with a deeper understanding and unique live event experience of this young European multi-sport event.

Delegates will be able to speak to senior staff from the LOC, participating European and International Federations and ECM, as well as experience exclusive tours of venues.

ECM Directors, Events, Colin Hartley, said, ‘’We expect that, by attending, potential future hosts will be able to visualise the huge impact the European Championships could have on a city and region – as was the case in Berlin and Glasgow.  We are in the truly spectacular city of Munich for the second edition, and we are hopeful attendees will experience an amazing event in the Olympic Park and across the city while observing the sporting, cultural and media venues in operation.’’

The main programme will be focused on Thursday 18th and the morning of Friday 19th August 2022. There is optional activity on Wednesday 17th and the afternoon of 19th August.

Once registered, delegates will be provided with an Observer Programme Guide which will contain detailed programme information, specific timings, and locations of all activity.

The detailed programme includes:

  • Presentation from senior representatives of the LOC, City of Munich, ECM’s Co-Founders

  • Presentation from the LOC on their approach, structure, key challenges, and successes in organising a high- profile multi-sport event

  • Lunch and tour of Gymnastics venue in operation including meeting with the Venue Team and representatives of European Gymnastics

  • Tour of Main Media Centre and presentations on media, communications, and broadcast

  • Tour of Olympic Park including visits to sport and cultural festival venues

  • Athletics evening session

  • Presentation from LOC’s Creative Director on Event Presentation

  • Tour of Königsplatz venue, downtown venue hosting Sport Climbing and Beach Volleyball

  • Bi-lateral meetings with Federations, ECM, City of Munich and specific LOC departments can be arranged upon request

Additional Tickets and Hospitality
If delegates would like to extend their stay in Munich, or if other colleagues would prefer to attend the event on different dates to the Observer Programme, ECM can arrange tickets and hospitality for any of the sport sessions (subject to availability).

Accommodation
ECM has reserved a limited amount of accommodation for Observer Programme delegates which can be reserved on a first-come-first-served basis. This is then paid for by delegates at check-in.

‘Last-minute’ registration
Parties interested in attending the Observer Programme are invited to contact Askan Brehm, Host Liaison Manager, by mid-July at askan.brehm@europeanchampionships.com

Once registered, ECM will then liaise with delegates on all logistical and operation topics, including accommodation requirements.
