Britain's Adam Peaty eager to return to water as he looks to add to European golds

British favourite Peaty is confident he is in a good place as he goes for glory in the pool during a packed Swimming schedule at the Glasgow 2018 European Championships.

Olympic 100m breaststroke champion Adam Peaty (GBR) is impatient to start racing as he looks to add to his eight titles from two European Championships when Glasgow 2018 Swimming competition gets under way on Friday 3 August.

The Brit is one of two men to have won gold at the Rio 2016 Games - the other being Gregorio Paltrinieri (ITA) - who will now compete at Tollcross International Swimming Centre. He will race in the 50m and 100m breaststroke, in which he holds world records, as well as in the mixed and men's medley relays.

"I am in one of the best places now," said Peaty, who suffered his first loss in four years at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in April, finishing second in the 50m breaststroke to South African Cameron van der Burgh.

"I want to get at it and see where I am. That is what racing is about, how I can adapt to the competition and if they can adapt back."

World champion Anton Chupkov (RUS) heads up the 200m breaststroke.

Paltrinieri holds Olympic, World and European titles in the 1500m freestyle and is the second fastest man in history over 30 lengths.

Ben Prouid lowered his British 50m freestyle record to 21.16 seconds in June to become the fourth fastest man in history. Vladimir Morozov (RUS) and Pawel Juraszek (POL) await.

Duncan Scott (GBR) became the most successful Scottish swimmer at a single major championships when he claimed six medals at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, including 100m freestyle gold. He faces Morozov over two lengths and James Guy (GBR), Aleksandr Krasnykh (RUS) and Juraszek in the 200m.

Andrii Govorov (UKR) lowered the 50m butterfly world record that had stood since 2009 to 22.27secs last month in Rome. He was third at last year’s Wolrd Championships behind winner Proud.

In March, Kristof Milak (HUN) became the third fastest man in history in the 200m butterfly when he swam 1:52.71, a time bettered only by Michael Phelps (USA) and MILAK's fellow Hungarian and six-time Olympic medallist Laszlo Cseh.

The 18-year-old will face Guy, Cseh and Tamas Kenderesi (HUN) in the 100m butterfly, an event in which Milak took silver at last year's Worlds.

Kliment Kolesnikov (RUS), another rising star who turned 18 in July, will face fellow Russian and World Champion Evgeny Rylov in the 200m backstroke.

David Verraszto (HUN) will seek to make it three European titles in a row in the 400m individual medley with Philip Heintz (GER) on form in the 200m.

Great Britain are World Champions in the 4x200m freestyle relay and silver medallists in the medley relay, but face competition in both events from Russia, who are also strong in the 4x100m freestyle, where Italy and world bronze medallists Hungary will look to contend.
