BMX freestyle ace Worthington says European Championships have “smashed it”

Great Britain’s BMX Freestyle Olympic gold medallist Charlotte Worthington has offered words of praise for the European Championships Munich 2022 experience.

The 26-year-old topped women’s qualification on Day 1 at the Olympiaberg park with its spectacular views across the Bavarian capital.

“I’m so stoked to see it all here - it's almost like a mini Olympics,” she said.

“It's super well-organised and the European Championships have smashed it - we're really well looked after and it's so nice.”

Worthington took up BMX seriously at the age of 20 having previously worked as a chef at a restaurant in her home city of Manchester. She claimed the inaugural women’s freestyle BMX European title in 2019, adding world bronze in both 2019 and 2021.

But her biggest victory to date came at the postponed Tokyo 2020 competition, where she became the first woman to land a backflip 360 in an Olympic final on her way to the gold medal.
