Glasgow city centre is set to come alive next year during the summer and will celebrate the 2018 European Championships with a vibrant Cultural Festival to accompany the sporting spectacular, which sees six major sports celebrate their continental championships between 2-12 August next year.
Glasgow's famous and historic George Square will be the heart of activities running alongside the new and innovative multi-sport event which has its first edition in 2018.
The Cultural Festival’s programmes will include theatre, dance, music, comedy and visual arts performances that will bring local communities to life and thrill visitors to the city, a fitting accompaniment to the 11 days of world-class sporting action that will also be taking place.
VisitScotland’s Director of Events Paul Bush commented: “The Glasgow 2018 European Championships are a direct legacy of Scotland hosting the 2014 Commonwealth Games and The Ryder Cup. The Cultural Festival secures the legacy further and ensures Scotland continues to be recognised as a global leader in the delivery of sporting and cultural events.
“EventScotland is proud to be part of the team helping deliver the Championships that will once again show Scotland as the perfect stage for events,” he added.
The Festival will showcase the very best of Scottish and Glaswegian culture and celebrations will take place at local landmarks such as George Square and Merchant City, allowing everyone – sports fans and non-fans alike – to be part of the European Championships.
